Bombshell: Boca has started negotiations to bring Leandro Paredes back

Juan Román Riquelme stayed in Argentina to negotiate the return of the midfielder who, if his comeback is agreed upon, would join Xeneize only after the Club World Cup

Juan Román Riquelme, president of Boca, chose not to accompany the squad on their trip to the United States to compete in theClub World Cup, as he began formal negotiations to secure Leandro Paredes's return to the La Ribera club.

The Xeneize leader reestablished contact with the midfielder in recent weeks, and a key conversation led him to change his plans and cancel his flight to Miami.

After the match that the Argentina National Team will play this Tuesday against Colombia at Estadio Monumental, corresponding to the last fixture of this double round of South American Qualifiers, Riquelme will meet personally with Paredes with the aim of advancing his return to the club with a convincing proposal.

Although the world champion will not be able to participate in the Club World Cup due to scheduling issues, he would have the opportunity to join the team for the second half of the year, when Boca will compete in the Copa Argentina and the 2025 Torneo Clausura.

Riquelme has already taken the first step with an attractive contract offer. If an agreement is reached, the Roma release clause will be triggered, which amounts to 3.5 million dollars.

What did Lionel Scaloni say about Paredes's possible return to Boca

The coach of the Argentina National Team was asked about the talks between the midfielder and Boca: "We don't get involved in the players' decisions and I think that's how it should be. What we're going to value, if he returns, is his performance. It's not important where he is, what matters is that he plays".

"If he comes back, it would be spectacular for Argentine soccer, another world champion, but I can't say more because I don't have any more information", added the Albiceleste's head coach.
