
Bombshell: Iker Muniain says goodbye to San Lorenzo and could put an end to his professional career
The Spaniard will leave the club after nine months to return to his family in Bilbao, and in the coming days he will announce his retirement
Iker Muniain is leaving San Lorenzo, and will almost certainly retire from professional soccer. The player born in Pamplona will return to Spain to reunite with his children and family in Bilbao, ending his time at the club after nine months of stay.
With only 26 matches played in Argentine soccer and after having spent his entire career at Athletic Bilbao, Muniain decided to put an end to his spell at Cuervoand, probably, to his career as a professional player at 32 years old.

In the coming days, Muniain himself will hold a press conference where he will make his departure official and confirm his retirement from soccer, a sport he has dedicated himself to since his debut in 2009.
The Basque midfielder embarked on the dream of playing in Argentina, leaving behind the club of his life and turning down million-dollar offers from Saudi Arabia. However, after a short but significant experience at Ciclón, he would choose to end his career and focus on his family life.
Muniain's departure adds to a complex situation at the blaugrana. Boca took their coach, Miguel Ángel Russo,as well as one of their key players,Malcom Braida. With no reinforcements confirmed so far, the management has opted for Damián Ayude, former reserve team coach, as a replacement on the bench. Now, the team will also lose its captain and star player, who has decided not to continue at the club.

Muniain's numbers at Ciclón
During his time at San Lorenzo, Muniain scored four goals and provided one assist in 26 official matches. Despite an injury that temporarily kept him off the field, he was a regular starter both with Pipi Romagnoli and with Miguel Ángel Russo. He also played an important role in the campaign of the 2025 Torneo Apertura, where the team reached the semifinals, a stage in which they were eliminated by Platense, who later became champions of the tournament.
