The executive advisor acknowledged Renault engine's limitations and stated that there will not be any improvements for the remainder of the year, although he trusts the project looking ahead to 2026

After the Italian Grand Prix, held at the legendary Autodromo di Monza, Flavio Briatore, executive advisor and key figure at Alpine, evaluated the performance of his drivers, who once again struggled with the lack of power from the Renault engine on a track that was not favorable for the French team.

This shortcoming was reflected in the results: Pierre Gasly finished in 16th position, while Franco Colapinto closely followed in 17th, although the Argentine once again outperformed him in Saturday's qualifying: he set a 1:19.992 compared to the Frenchman's 1:20.103. However, in the race both were affected by the long straights and high speed of the circuit.

In relation to this, in an official Alpine statement, Briatore admitted: "It wasn't our best day nor our best result today in Monza, on a circuit we knew wouldn't be very favorable for our team".

He also ruled out improvements for the remainder of the season: "The current car is all we have available with our two drivers for the remaining races, given the focus on developing the car for 2026".

Nonetheless, the Italian businessman left an optimistic message: "As competitors, we know that some weekends will be difficult, but we trust in the work being done behind the scenes and that better days are ahead for the team".

Gasly renewed with Alpine and Colapinto remains in doubt

Another piece of news that emerged in recent hours was the contract extension of Pierre Gasly, who will remain as the lead driver. The Frenchman will stay with Alpine until 2028 and was backed by Briatore himself: "Pierre has been an invaluable asset to the team during this difficult period. I have been very impressed by his attitude, dedication, and talent, and we look forward to continuing this project together for a long time".

Meanwhile, the media outlet Sky Sports asked the executive advisor about who will be the team's second driver, to which he replied: "It hasn't been decided yet. Maybe it will be Franco, we'll see. We have another four or five races to judge and then we'll see".
