The reactivation announced by Glencore marks the return of copper production at one of Argentina's most significant mines. Governor Raúl Jalil celebrated the news and emphasized that the decision is directly linked to the favorable conditions caused by the Incentive Regime for Large Investments (RIGI).
"This restart means more jobs and development for all Catamarcans," stated the governor, who highlighted that the province is once again playing a central role on the national and international mining map.
RIGI as a driver to attract investments and unlock projects
Jalil asserted that policies such as RIGI allow projects of this scale to move forward after years of stagnation. The regime offers tax predictability, long-term stability, and a competitive framework for strategic investments, which were key factors for Glencore's decision to resume operations at Alumbrera after more than six years under Care and Maintenance.

The company linked the reactivation to a more favorable scenario for the industry: better fiscal conditions, a sustained increase in copper and gold prices, and optimistic projections for both markets.
Status of infrastructure and production outlook
During the maintenance period, the concentrator plant and its facilities underwent a structured program that included equipment renewal and compliance with environmental commitments. This allowed the restart to be planned with greater efficiency and lower operational risk.
