The journalist recounted the emotional conversation that the coach and the president had prior to his arrival at Xeneize in early June
The death of Miguel Ángel Russo left a deep mark on the world of soccer and, especially, on Boca. Amid the pain caused by the coach's passing, journalist Diego "Chavo" Fucks revealed details of an intimate conversation he had with Juan Román Riquelme before his third spell as head of the club, a gesture that today takes on an even more moving significance.
"Miguel was already unwell when he finished with San Lorenzo. Román knew and asked him about his condition. "Things aren't good, but if something is going to happen to me, let it be as Boca's coach," Russo told him," Fucks recounted. "Román immediately agreed, not hesitating to fulfill his friend/father's wish," he added,

The bond between them went beyond sports. Riquelme and Russo forged a close relationship since those glorious days of 2007, when Xeneize won its sixth, and for now last, Copa Libertadores, with Román as the star and Miguel as the leader.
"It was an act of love from Riquelme. Both had a very strong bond, and that was what the final embrace on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Miguel's home expressed. Both knew the end was near and decided to face it together," Fucks concluded.

Riquelme's gesture, beyond any controversy that his figure may generate in his role as president, reveals a story of loyalty, affection, and mutual respect between two idols who defined an era at Boca. A bond that, even in their farewell, remained true to the essence they shared on and off the field.
