Villa Allende Municipality, one of the most important cities in the Colón department in Córdoba, is moving forward with the innovative idea of fighting insecurity, despite the opposition of some residents.
The petitioners requested the immediate suspension of the Opposition Registry underway in the first neighborhoods where the measure will be applied, which are Pan de Azúcar and Lomas Sur.
The residents argued that the closures violated the guarantees of freedom of movement and transit contained in the National Constitution.
After this rejection, they reported that they will file a new claim in the courts.
Villa Allende closes streets with gates
Meanwhile, and despite the controversy, the Municipality led by Pablo Cornet indicated that it will move forward with its plan.
Government Secretary Felipe Crespo confirmed it this Monday and stated that the installation of gates on secondary streets will begin to be carried out in the coming weeks.
El secretario de Gobierno de Villa Allende, Felipe Crespo.
The official assured that the ruling authorizes the Executive to move forward with the implementation of the program in the Pan de Azúcar and Lomas Sur neighborhoods.
"There is no clear violation of rights", Crespo said, who explained that during 2025 the opposition registry was carried out in both neighborhoods and that the operational stage is now beginning.
According to what he detailed to Radio FM Nexo de Villa Allende, the administrative specifications with the technical details of each gate are already prepared, and they will vary according to the width of the streets and the characteristics of each intersection.
The official forecast is to begin installation during the month of February.
Regarding financing, the official indicated that the 2026 budget includes a specific allocation both for the gates and for the installation of security cameras, whose specifications were already drawn up and will be put out to tender in the coming days.
Security: how the gates will work in Villa Allende
The Government Secretary explained that the gates will be closed between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., without requiring documentation to enter or leave, since main streets will remain open.
The control of closing and opening will be in the hands of Citizen Security, with support from Civil Defense.
In addition, he assured that the closure will be accompanied by an increase in patrolling, with patrol cars that will remain in the area to become familiar with the neighborhood's dynamics and strengthen prevention.
In that regard, Crespo highlighted that the municipality went from having three patrol cars to eight, adding new pickup trucks obtained from the Province, and that progress is being made in training personnel for the use of urban monitoring drones.
Villa Allende, with greater operational capacity in terms of security
When asked whether this scheme will affect security in other sectors of the city, the official denied that possibility and stated that the municipality's operational capacity has been strengthened.
Crespo announced that in February the opposition registry will begin in the Golf area, one of the sectors that originally requested the implementation of the program. He clarified that the ordinance requires carrying out this consultation process neighborhood by neighborhood before moving forward with any closure.
Regarding a possible judicial appeal by the residents, he stated that there is no precautionary measure that prevents continuing with the plan and that the municipality decided to move forward even though the issue could be debated again in the courts after the judicial recess.
