Díaz-Canel's regime activated the 'State of War' and accused the United States of an 'external threat,' while Trump warned that Cuba will not receive more resources

The Cuban regime announced the approval of "plans and measures" to activate the so-called "State of War", a declaration that deepens the climate of tension with the United States after the recent military liberation operation in Venezuela that culminated in the capture of dictator Nicolás Maduro. State media reported that the National Defense Council activated the emergency structure within the framework of the doctrine known as the "War of the Entire People," a military concept developed in the eighties by Fidel Castro.

According to the official version, the decision responds to a "possible external aggression," although the regime did not provide concrete details about real threats. The announcement coincides with the mourning for the 32 Cuban soldiers killed during the United States intervention in Caracas, an event that intensified Havana's confrontational discourse.

Dictator Díaz-Canel hardens his rhetoric and appeals to Cold War symbols

During the last week, dictator Miguel Díaz-Canel adopted an even more belligerent tone and appeared in military uniform at events historically reserved for emergency situations. In a public statement he declared: "There is no possible surrender or capitulation," rejecting any kind of political negotiation with Washington.

The dictatorship organized military exercises that included ambush drills, mine placement, and defense techniques, presented as part of "Defense Day". According to the official narrative, these activities seek to "perfect the preparation and cohesion" of the leadership bodies, although the underlying aim is to reinforce internal control and feed the revolutionary epic in front of the population.

The deterioration of the bilateral relationship after Maduro's fall

Since the capture of Nicolás Maduro and the death of Cuban military personnel in Venezuela, Havana has intensified its verbal attacks against the United States. Through public events, nationalist speeches, and mobilizations, the regime is trying to reinstall the narrative of resistance in the face of an alleged foreign threat.

Díaz-Canel repeated a phrase by Fidel Castro when he stated: "We do not like to be threatened. They are not going to intimidate us". The message seeks to contribute to the narrative of continuity of power, even as the country is going through a deep economic crisis, with widespread shortages and growing social discontent.

Washington's position: end of financing and economic pressure

In parallel, Donald Trump's administration made it clear that Cuba will not receive any more money or oil from Venezuela. According to the official United States position, the Cuban dictatorship depended for years on chavismo's resources to sustain its internal control apparatus and guarantee the security of Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro.

Trump warned that "the time of privileges is over" and held Havana directly responsible for the role it played in protecting the Venezuelan regime. The statement marked a breaking point in the bilateral relationship, adding international pressure on Díaz-Canel's government.

A country in crisis and a regime that resorts to confrontation

Meanwhile, as Cuba insists on national mobilization and militaristic discourse, the population is facing one of the worst economic crises in decades, with structural shortages, deteriorated wages, and a lack of civil liberties. The declaration of the "State of War" appears as a political tool to prolong tension, reinforce internal control, and divert attention from the economic collapse that the island is going through.
