FIFA surprised everyone by announcing the development of FIFA Heroes, a video game that will mark a break with the tradition of its previous installments. After the separation from Electronic Arts in 2022 and the consolidation of EA Sports FC as the leading simulator, the organization seeks to open a new chapter with a more playful, family-oriented, and nostalgia-filled approach.
The game, scheduled for 2026, will be released on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android, with the promise of bringing the passion of soccer to broader audiences.
Arcade, superpowers, and new teams
Unlike realistic simulators, FIFA Heroes will focus on five-on-five matches with an arcade style. Players will be able to use superpowers, perform spectacular moves, and combine teams made up of historic mascots, real soccer figures, and fictional characters from movies or series.

Among the confirmed protagonists are Clutch (United States' eagle), Zayu (Mexico's jaguar), and Maple (Canada's moose), official ambassadors of the 2026 World Cup. Each hero will have unique abilities that will bring dynamism and variety to the matches.
The goal: winning over new generations
Christian Volk, FIFA's director of gaming and esports, stated that the purpose is "to unite people through the love of soccer" and to attract new audiences with an accessible and fun proposal.
The development involves the studios Solace and Enver, led by Kyle Joyce, who emphasized that the title aims to capture "the speed, drama, and rivalry" of soccer in an innovative and entertainment-filled experience.

The release of EA Sports FC 26 reinforces Electronic Arts' commitment to realism and the official representation of clubs and leagues. However, FIFA chose an alternative path, with arcade gameplay and a strong anchor in pop culture.
This contrast poses a challenge for FIFA, which will have to convince players accustomed to simulation that there is room for a different experience. For now, no gameplay images or details about possible microtransactions or seasons have been revealed.
Expectations in the gaming market
The announcement sparked a major debate in the community, which is eager to learn more about the mechanics, graphics, and game modes of this new proposal. The question is how fans will react and whether FIFA Heroes will manage to position itself as a complement —and not a replacement— for realistic simulators.
