The President of the United States, Donald Trump, denounced this Friday that Iran "recklessly" violated the ceasefire and the 60-day memorandum of understanding in effect between both countries. The accusation comes after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a drone offensive against a cargo ship passing through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the cargo ship was hit by a drone on Thursday night near the coast of Oman. A White House official confirmed the attack and specified that the impact occurred while the vessel was navigating the safe route approved by Washington.
The route established by the U.S. government dictates that ships navigate close to the Omani coastline, while Tehran aims to force shipping companies to use a corridor further north that is under its military control. Additionally, the Iranian regime seeks to impose transit fees or tolls in the Strait, a measure that Trump has already warned he will not tolerate under any circumstances.

The White House's Response
Referring to the attack, Trump detailed that U.S. military forces managed to intercept and shoot down three of the four drones launched by Tehran. "One of the drones struck directly on the upper deck of a large cargo ship worth millions. There was material damage, but the ship was able to continue on its route," the president explained.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran fired at least four one-way attack drones at ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz. One of the drones struck directly on the deck of a large and very expensive cargo ship. Damage was caused, but the vessel was able to proceed. We shot down three other drones. Obviously, this represents a reckless violation of our Ceasefire Agreement," reads the full statement from the president.
Despite the military escalation, the naval surveillance and escort plan implemented by Trump in the Strait of Hormuz has managed to bring calm to global markets and caused oil prices to plummet to pre-war levels, with the barrel of oil currently trading near $70, a key value for international energy stability.
