The Argentine defender returned to training in England after a ligament tear and will seek to regain his form for the 2026 World Cup
The former Defensa y Justicia player is a regular in the Argentina National Team and was part of the World Cup-winning squad in Qatar 2022, in addition to participating in the 2021 and 2024 Copa América tournaments. In total, he has 26 appearances with the Albiceleste and one goal, scored in the quarterfinals against Ecuador in the most recent continental tournament.
With the 2026 World Cup just around the corner, the decisive stage begins for footballers aspiring to be on Lionel Scaloni's draft list. One of the most anticipated returns is that of Lisandro Martínez, who has returned to training with Manchester United after overcoming a serious injury to his left knee.
The Argentine defender suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in February, during a match against Crystal Palace in the Premier League. After an extensive rehabilitation, the player from Entre Ríos returned to the Carrington Training Center, where he was greeted with a warm ovation from the coaching staff and his teammates.
"He feels good. The knee is responding very well, so I don't want to set an exact date. Everything will depend on the pace Licha can pick up. If he earns his place, it will depend on him," explained coach Ruben Amorim last week.
Meanwhile, Manchester United is trying to move past a season marked by injuries and ups and downs. In the current English championship, the team is in sixth place with 16 points, with notable victories such as the one achieved in the classic against Liverpool by 2-1.
With his return to training, the defender aims to regain competitive rhythm and once again be a solid option for both his club and the Argentina National Team on the road to the 2026 World Cup.
