The future of Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez will continue, at least for now, linked to Aston Villa. Juventus, which was seen as the main candidate to acquire the Argentine goalkeeper in this transfer market, decided to withdraw from negotiations after considering that the cost of the operation exceeds their financial capabilities.

According to Fabrizio Romano, a journalist specialized in transfer markets, the management of la Vecchia Signora has already communicated their decision to the English club, putting an end to discussions that had raised expectations about a possible arrival of the world champion in Serie A.

The main obstacle was the financial aspect. The Villains valued the Mar del Plata native at 10 million euros, a figure that Juventus considered too high to acquire a 33-year-old goalkeeper, so they opted to withdraw from the operation despite the interest in the player.

It is worth noting that the Birmingham club never hid their intention to retain the goalkeeper. The sporting director, Damian Vidagany, had been emphatic regarding the Argentine's situation: "We have no intention of letting him go this summer. The team needs his dedication and vast experience, and he is a very important element in our project for the upcoming season".

With the possibility of joining Juventus practically ruled out, Martínez is preparing to rejoin Aston Villa's preseason under the orders of Unai Emery. The goalkeeper has a contract with the English institution until June 2029 and will be one of the key pieces of the team, which will face a new season with the goal of being a protagonist in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

The numbers of Dibu Martínez at Aston Villa

Since his arrival at the Villains in mid-2020, the Argentine goalkeeper has played 22,655 minutes, spread over 256 matches, of which he remained unbeaten in 80 and in the rest conceded 305 goals; he also received yellow cards on 26 occasions and a direct red card on one. In terms of titles, he won one: Europa League 2025/26.
