Border Patrol data shows numbers related to illegal crossings that have not been seen in the past 55 years

The government of President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that illegal crossings at the United States-Mexico border have reached their lowest annual level since 1970.
This is reported by the numbers managed by the Border Patrol, a force that recorded nearly 238,000 detentions of migrants illegally crossing the southern border during fiscal year 2025, which began in October of last year and ended on September 30. This is the lowest figure since 1970, when approximately 202,000 illegal immigrants were detained.
The White House celebrated this achievement with a statement. "President Donald J. Trump's unwavering commitment to the security of our homeland has reduced illegal crossings at the southern border to the lowest level in more than 50 years," part of the statement says.

Additionally, it is worth noting that of the 238,000 illegal immigrants detained in this fiscal year, more than 60 percent were captured during the last three months of the Biden administration. Since Trump returned to the White House eight months ago, fewer than 9,000 detentions have been recorded each month.
These numbers, in addition to representing a historic achievement for U.S. border security, expose the disastrous situation that existed at the border under Biden's government. In 2022, for example, agents detained a total of 2.2 million illegal immigrants, a figure that represents nearly 10 times more than what was recorded this year.
Trump's success also confirms what the Republican maintained throughout his election campaign: that all that was needed to secure the border was a president willing to use his powers and force to enforce existing immigration laws and not allow millions of illegals to enter the country.
"Shortly after Trump took office for the second time, his government moved to militarize the southern border, shutting down the U.S. asylum system through emergency powers, sending thousands of soldiers to repel illegal crossings and eliminating Biden programs that allowed some migrants to legally enter the U.S.," CBS News analyzed.

Experts on migration published an opinion article last month in which they stated that the work of the Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS), Kristi Noem, to navigate the migration crisis also deserves to be highlighted.
"Noem's most notable achievement is the transformation of the southern border from a zone of anarchy to a secure and efficiently monitored international border," these authors said. "Data from the Department of Homeland Security show that daily encounters with illegal immigrants have decreased by an astonishing 93%, while daily detentions have fallen by 96%".
These experts also added that DHS has already facilitated the departure of more than two million illegal immigrants from the country in less than 250 days. In the last four months, everyone who was captured by the forces attempting to illegally enter U.S. territory was arrested and deported to their country of origin.
