Without minutes under Úbeda, the Xeneize right-back is looking for continuity and Rojo has already started negotiations for him
Lucas Blondel is going through a complex present at Boca. With no place in Claudio Úbeda's plans and without having played any minutes in the last six months, the right back is waiting for the transfer market to open a door for him to relaunch his career and get back on the radar of the Swiss national team.
In that scenario, after inquiries from Argentinos Juniors, Racing, Tigre, Independiente joined the list of interested parties. The Avellaneda club is looking to fill the vacancy left by Federico Vera, who was loaned to Huracán for one season, and it sees Blondel as an option that fits what the squad needs.
According to journalist Germán García Grova, Rojo has already initiated contacts to learn more about the contractual situation of the player who came through at Atlético Rafaela and to thus move forward with a formal proposal. For now, the financial demands of the Ribera club are high and the transfer appears costly for the club, so the parties will analyze the next steps.
El principal impedimento de Independiente sería económico
The search is not random, since it responds to a direct request from Gustavo Quinteros, who intends to add a right back. In that position, Independiente currently only has Leonardo Godoy, who was signed last transfer window from Athletico Paranaense.
Blondel has a release clause of 15 million dollars, an amount that is practically unaffordable for Argentine soccer. This is why the alternatives being considered include a loan with a purchase option or waiting for Boca to relax its conditions.
Meanwhile, in view of the possible departure of the defender and the exit of Luis Advíncula to Alianza Lima, Xeneize made an internal decision. Marcelo Weigandt, who is back after his loan at Inter Miami, joined training to be evaluated as an alternative to Juan Barinaga in light of the Peruvian's absence.
Blondel's numbers at Boca
Since his arrival at Xeneize in mid-2023, the former Tigre player has played just 32 matches, with a record of four goals and one assist in 2,111 minutes.
