LUZU TV fired Florencia Peña and her producers after spreading the false news of Lionel Messi's father's death

This Thursday will mark a turning point in the career of the Kirchnerist actress Florencia Peña. Following the national scandal generated by the dissemination of a fake news regarding the death of the father of Argentina's greatest idol, Lionel Messi, the authorities of Luzu TV decided to sever ties with the host. The final blow came through an official statement issued by the channel of Nicolás Occhiato, which expressed the seriousness of what occurred on the program "El Show del Verano". In the text, the company was categorical: "For our channel, the dissemination of sensitive information without prior verification is unacceptable". In language that leaves no room for doubt about the expulsion, the document states that "the authorities of Luzu TV have made the decision to sever ties with all responsible parties involved, and Florencia Peña will make the decision to step aside", a euphemism to confirm her forced exit in light of the international embarrassment.

This outcome occurs just hours after Peña, in a desperate attempt to save her image, tried to place full blame on her technical team. In an interview where she appeared broken, the actress stated: "I was told about that news through the earpiece... They asked me to say it".

Moreover, in an act of arrogance typical of her activism, she initially claimed that she would not face consequences: "Did they already come out talking about a sanction? Yes. Not for me... The issue is with the production". Reality, however, showed that the "rope was cut at its thickest" and her lack of journalistic ethics was not forgiven.

The origin of the conflict dates back to the live broadcast where Peña interrupted the programming to exclaim: "I don't want to give bad news, but Messi's dad has just died. Was it something sudden? Despite the fact that the Messi family issued a statement clarifying that Jorge Messi is "under medical supervision, recovering, and evolving favorably", the damage was already done.
