This is an infrared spectrometer (FTIR), which makes it possible to identify microbial variants in a few hours, without complex or costly techniques.
It serves to detect subtle differences between microorganisms, to speed up epidemiological analysis, and to improve the response to outbreaks and health alerts.

Lower costs and greater speed thanks to Malbrán's new equipment
"It is one of the most powerful pieces of equipment that we have in our laboratory for the fight against diseases", explained biochemist María Florencia Rocca, from Malbrán.
"It is a unique piece of equipment in our country. What it does is scan bacteria with infrared light to obtain a fingerprint. This allows us to know which variant we are facing with surgical precision", she added.
El Ministerio de Salud incorporó tecnología de última generación para el Instituto Malbrán.
Regarding the reduction in costs, Rocca pointed out: "What used to take us four days in extremely expensive genetic analyses, with this equipment we solve in just four hours and the cost drops from thousands of dollars to just a fraction".
According to what was indicated, this new equipment strengthens microbiological surveillance throughout the country and expands research capabilities.
"With it, one obtains greater precision, greater speed, and a better health response", officials from the Ministry stated.
