Before Keylor Navas's continuity at Newell’s was secured, Cristian Fabbiani, the team's head coach, contacted Sergio Romero, who doesn't view a departure from Boca unfavorably and showed openness to moving to Rosario.
The 38-year-old goalkeeper, whose contract ends at the end of the year, is no longer a primary consideration for Miguel Ángel Russo, behind Agustín Marchesín, Leandro Brey, and even Javier García. Given this scenario, it wouldn't be unreasonable to consider a short-term departure for the former goalkeeper of the Argentina National Team.

According to various sources, Newell’s's proposal excited Romero, who has already recovered from surgery on his right knee. However, the transfer fell through, since Ignacio Astore, president of Lepra, rejected a $1 million offer from Pumas de México for Keylor and demanded at least $3 million, thus confirming the Costa Rican goalkeeper's continuity.
