The LLA activist condemned the statements of the municipal leader of Cosquín about a possible visit by Javier Milei to the folk event

The Kirchnerist mayor of Cosquín, Raúl Cardinali, unleashed widespread rejection by stating that the city "is not friendly territory for those who go against culture," in reference to a possible visit by the president to the festival. The municipal chief is trying to install a biased narrative about Javier Milei's image in order to justify his own ideological stance. This misinterpretation, carried out deliberately, seems intended to conceal the real debate about state financing of artistic activities through the use of public resources.

Milei keeps that the State must not subsidize artists because that turns them into public employees instead of independent creators. Cardinali ignores this correct technical distinction in order to align his discourse with the Kirchnerist narrative that promotes dependence on the state budget. It is a serious conceptual error to consider that defending market freedom in art is equivalent to being against genuine cultural expression.

In the face of these statements, the activist from La Libertad Avanza in Cosquín, Mario Panizza, came out to respond harshly to the Kirchnerist municipal chief. Panizza warned that a public official doesn't have the moral authority to decide who may or may not attend a celebration of a popular nature. The liberal activist clarified that Milei's possible presence is a purely institutional matter that goes beyond any partisan difference.

Criticism of partisan bias in Cosquín

The local LLA leader assured that the ruling party uses the national festival as a political tool to deepen social division. Panizza was blunt in expressing his rejection: "His statements were unpleasant; he excludes many people who voted for him (for Milei), especially young people." These words reflect the discomfort of a large part of society that no longer accepts the authoritarianism of the old politics of the local leadership.

It is important to highlight that liberalism prevailed in Cosquín during the last legislative elections when all the options from that political sector were added together. The Provincias Unidas space, led by Schiaretti, only obtained first place by just 37 votes after carrying out a massive campaign deployment. This electoral parity shows that Mayor Cardinali governs behind the back of a popular will that demands deep changes in the administration.

Throughout the entire campaign, the provincial government proceeded to send discretionary funds to the municipality, which never specified what it used them for. Mario Panizza described this relationship of budgetary submission to the central command of the province of Córdoba. The activist stated that the mayor "kneels before the province and despises the president," making clear the lack of autonomy in the administration.

The festival is not the mayor's property

It must be remembered that the Cosquín festival is not Raúl Cardinali's private property nor an operations center for La Cámpora activists, as he was himself. The municipal chief forgets that his role is that of a temporary administrator, not the absolute owner of the feelings and preferences of Cosquín's residents. It is imperative to ask citizens whether they really want to close the doors to the leader whom they democratically chose to run the country.

The discontent is already being strongly expressed on digital platforms, where residents express their weariness with the politicization of traditions. A user accurately commented on Instagram: "In his statement, the mayor expresses himself as if he were the owner of Cosquín. Whatever the festival may be, it must be self-sustaining; otherwise, it should not be held. Whoever wants a festival must pay the ticket at the appropriate price, without help/subsidy from the province/nation."

Civil society demands that cultural events cease to be a tool for partisan politics and a burden on the pockets of those who pay their taxes without receiving benefits. The subsidized culture that the mayor defends only serves to finance the friends of power under a cloak of false state artistic promotion. Cosquín needs leadership that respects the diversity of ideas and that works so that its festivals are examples of freedom and not of propaganda.
