The reactivation of Alumbrera has once again been placed on the mining agenda of Catamarca. The provincial government and the company Glencore moved forward with a joint agenda for the restart of operations at the deposit, in a meeting held this Thursday at the Casa de Catamarca, in the City of Buenos Aires.
The meeting was led by the governor Raúl Jalil and included the participation of Glencore Argentina's CEO, Martín Pérez de Solay, together with country manager Juan Donicelli. During the meeting, the participants analyzed technical and strategic aspects linked to the future of Minera Alumbrera, one of the province's most relevant mining projects.
Reactivation and productive development
The central focus of the meeting was the possible restart of operations at Alumbrera, a project that managed to position Catamarca as a key player on the Argentine mining map. According to reports, the parties evaluated different investment and productive planning scenarios.
The provincial government indicated that this type of meeting makes it possible to plan medium- and long-term investments, with the goal of boosting the regional economy. The official aim is to strengthen productive development, create jobs, and consolidate the relationship with communities in western Catamarca.
