A 4.7-magnitude earthquake shook La Rioja province early Tuesday morning and was felt in various parts of Córdoba and other provinces. According to the National Institute for Seismic Prevention (INPRES), the event occurred at 5:42 a.m. at a depth of 146 kilometers (90.7 miles), which allowed it to be perceived across a wide region. The epicenter was located 17 kilometers (10.6 miles) northwest of Ulapes, 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) southeast of Chepes, already within Córdoba territory.
In Córdoba, the tremor was noticed in Traslasierra, the provincial capital, and some areas of Río Cuarto, although it did not cause any damage or incidents. In La Rioja, it was felt in Ulapes, Ambil, and Quines, while there were also minor reports in San Juan and Mendoza. The depth of the event moderated its impact on the surface, preventing material consequences.

Seismic monitoring and prevention in the center of the country
Provincial authorities confirmed that there were no injuries or structural damage. Civil Defense teams conducted preventive monitoring during the morning to assess possible effects. INPRES recalled that these movements are common in the Cuyo region and western Córdoba, although they rarely cause serious consequences.
The national agency keeps ongoing monitoring of seismic activity and publishes real-time reports. Experts explained that intermediate-depth earthquakes are usually felt over large areas but do not pose significant risks. In this case, rapid communication and institutional coordination prevented unnecessary alarms.
El INPRES recordó que estos movimientos son habituales en la región cuyana y el oeste cordobés, aunque rara vez generan consecuencias graves.
