After Costantino's appointment until 2026, the leader denounced irregularities, spoke of a 'coup d'état' and stated that the justice will invalidate what was decided
The tense institutional climate at San Lorenzo added a new chapter after the Extraordinary Assembly that ruled that Sergio Costantino will govern the club until May 30, 2026. Despite the formal decision, the scenario continues to be marked by uncertainty, since the courts still haven't ruled on the request for annulment filed byMarcelo Morettiagainst the Board of Directors meeting in which the power vacuum was declared.
Hours after the meeting, the former executive broke his silence and confirmed that he doesn't recognize what was decided. "I am very calm because we filed the challenge last Thursday against the Board of Directors from Tuesday, December 16. We are waiting for the ruling from Civil Court 51, which will be issued in the next few hours, and the Assembly that took place yesterday will be annulled", he stated in remarks to Picado TV.
"The idea is to return with the two years that we have left in our term, for which we were democratically elected by San Lorenzo's members", the executive added.
Moretti planea cumplir su mandato
Meanwhile, Moretti again questioned the legality of the meeting that led to the power vacuum and asserted that it was wrongly labeled. According to his version, although he called it, he never actually started it. "Since I never started it, it did not begin to be addressed. The content was produced only by a few people, printing a tactically forged document, of absolute nullity", he stated.
He also reported irregularities in the minutes: "There appeared to be 18 people present when there were only 15, and out of those 15, 7 did not resign. Worst of all is that 9 people signed it. I did not do anything to leave, it simply is a coup d'état".
In the face of warnings about possible administrative and operational obstacles for the club, Moretti denied being responsible for that situation. "I do not block anything. There is a statute and if it is not respected, one must go to the IGJ or to the courts. I handle these situations with my lawyers, who are specialists", he explained.
He also insisted that he had warned during the meeting about irregular maneuvers: "The meeting did not start. How are they going to sign something if no one reached an agreement? They did it anyway and this is challengeable, it is madness".
Moretti confía en que la Justicia le dé la razón
Finally, he made it clear that the conflict will not end with a first adverse ruling. "If the courts rule against me, I will go to the Civil Court of Appeals. Last time I appealed and it ruled in my favor. The minutes are forged", he concluded.
Meanwhile, San Lorenzo remains awaiting the judicial decision that will determine whether the Assembly that proclaimed Costantino is valid or whether the club will have to go through a new twist in an institutional crisis that seems far from being solved.
