Journalist Sergio Lapegüe broke the silence after the dramatic robbery that his mother suffered in her house in Lomas de Zamora. Moved, he said that he walked past the door while the criminals were inside and he did not know it.

The host gave his testimony on LAM (América TV) and then provided more details on América Noticias. In tears, he revealed that the thieves took an object of enormous sentimental value for his family.

"I walked past the door and they were inside"

According to what he recounted on LAM, the criminals entered without forcing the door and remained for about an hour inside the home. Inside was his 90-year-old mother, who suffers from Alzheimer's and moves around in a wheelchair.

"I had finished my show... I can assure you that I walked past the door and at that moment the criminals were inside", he said in anguish. Minutes later he received a call from his niece, who warned him: "They robbed grandma".

When he arrived, he found the door open and heard screams from inside. The caregivers had been restrained while the assailants demanded money and asked insistently about an alleged safe.

The pain over what they took

In addition to cash, the thieves took belongings with strong emotional value. "They stole the wedding ring that had belonged to my dad," Lapegüe said, visibly affected.

The journalist recalled that this is not the first violent episode that his family has gone through. In a previous robbery, years ago, his mother was tortured while they demanded money from her.

"They burned her with an iron. They told her they were going to kill her", he revealed, leaving the studio in silence.

How the house was left after the robbery

In a conversation with América Noticias, Lapegüe showed how he found the home: rooms ransacked, drawers emptied, security cameras broken, and the hard drive stolen to erase traces.

One of the caregivers was forced to walk through the house while they looked for money and was later locked in a bathroom. "Look at how they threw everything around, you can't live like this," the host said as he walked through the living room.

A debate that resurfaced

The journalist also referred to the debate on the lowering of the age of criminal responsibility that is being discussed in Congress. With deep pain, he concluded: "Fifth robbery here, second with this level of violence. My mother doesn't matter to them at all, nothing matters to them".
