The Finalissima has already started to be played off the field and the first result was resounding: sold-out tickets. The clash between Argentina and Spain, which will be played on March 27 at Lusail Stadium in Qatar, sold the 88,966 available seats in just two hours.
The venue is not just any other, since in that same stadium, on December 18, 2022, Lionel Messi lifted the World Cup after the unforgettable final against France. Now, the Argentine captain will step on that field again to face a renewed Spain that arrives as champion of Euro 2024.
The anticipation is not only due to the clash of titles, but also to the generational appeal: Messi versus Lamine Yamal, the legend and one of the greatest prospects in world soccer going face to face on the eve of the World Cup.
La Finalissima se jugará en el Estadio Lusail
The tickets were exclusively digital, non-refundable, and with a limit of four per person. The prices ranged between 50 and 330 dollars (between 200 and 1,200 Qatari riyals), and the organizers warned that any ticket purchased through unofficial channels will be canceled.
With Qatar once again as the epicenter of global soccer, the Finalissima promises a high-flying snapshot: two champions, a packed World Cup stadium, and a clash that combines present, history, and future.
Argentina's and Spain's absences for the Finalissima
In the run-up to the match, Lionel Scaloni already knows that he won't be able to count on Juan Foyth, who suffered a rupture of the left Achilles tendon and was also ruled out of the World Cup. In parallel, Giovani Lo Celso (muscle injury), Nico González (tear in the left thigh), and Lautaro Martínez (strain of the left soleus), might not be at 100% for the match against the Europeans.
On Spain's side, Luis de la Fuente won't have Mikel Merino, who will have to undergo surgery for a bone injury, and Samu Omorodion, with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the right knee. Meanwhile, Nico Williams, who is suffering from pubalgia, Pablo Barrios, with a muscle injury in the right thigh, and Marc Cucurella, with hamstring discomfort, are doubtful.
