Economy Minister Luis "Toto" Caputo announced on Monday the appointment of Alejandro Lew as the new Secretary of Finance of the Nation, a central position within the economic team leading the Government of Javier Milei's structural reforms.
"Alejandro Lew returns to the economic team, now as Secretary of Finance. Alejandro already accompanied us at the beginning of the administration as Director and Second Vice President of the BCRA," Caputo wrote on his X account, highlighting the personal and professional trust he keeps with the official.
Pablo Quirno juró como Canciller.
The new secretary will replace Pablo Quirno, who is leaving the position after having accompanied the first stage of financial stabilization to take over as Chancellor of the Argentine Republic, where he will continue to coordinate foreign policy with the Government's economic guidelines.
Lew is not an unknown figure in the economic world. He was CFO of YPF, in addition to having held executive positions in other energy companies and international banks. His time at the state oil company established him as a technician with experience in managing complex liabilities, restructurings, and financing investment projects.
Within the Central Bank, during the first months of the libertarian government, he participated in designing the monetary cleanup strategy and in coordinating with the Ministry of Economy to organize the remunerated liabilities inherited from Kirchnerism. His return to the cabinet is interpreted as a technical reinforcement for the stage of fiscal consolidation and opening of the capital market.
Lew's arrival comes at a time when local markets are maintaining a positive trend and financial indicators reflect confidence in the Government's direction. In recent weeks, country risk has fallen to its lowest in more than three years and Argentine stocks have recorded historic increases in dollars, signs of a sustained recovery that the Ministry of Economy seeks to consolidate through prudent debt management and the deepening of access to international financing.

The appointment is seen as a sign of continuity and professionalism within the economic team, in line with the new stage of growth and financial normalization promoted by Casa Rosada, following the resounding victory in October.
With this appointment, Caputo consolidates a technically oriented team, aligned with the principles of fiscal discipline, monetary stability, and market openness, pillars of the economic program that enabled Argentina to regain investor confidence and reduce country risk to record levels.
