Thanks to the Republican administration, nearly 62,000 migrant children were rescued from a dangerous criminal network

The rescue of more than 62,000 migrant minors has become the central focus of the report presented by the Border Czar, Tom Homan, who attributed these recoveries to actions promoted during the current Donald Trump administration. According to Homan, the children had entered the country alone during Joe Biden's administration, and many of them were exposed to situations of exploitation and abuse.
Homan explained in an interview on the program "Fox & Friends" that the majority of the rescued minors were in conditions of extreme vulnerability, including cases of sexual trafficking, forced labor, and other forms of mistreatment.
Although he avoided describing some of the most serious episodes, he maintained that the magnitude of the problem justified an immediate response. "We are talking about children in unthinkable situations; rescuing them was an absolute priority," he stated.
The official assured that the teams in charge of the recovery operations faced smuggling and exploitation networks that had proliferated in recent years.

He also stated that Trump had ordered an intensive effort to locate minors whose whereabouts were unknown, following reports that hundreds of thousands of children had been released or relocated without proper follow-up.
Throughout the process, authorities identified numerous cases in which the minors were under the care of adults without legitimate family ties or in environments where there were signs of labor exploitation. The operations included home checks, welfare interviews, and coordination with state and federal agencies specializing in child protection.
The figures that prompted these initiatives come from Department of Homeland Security reports, which indicate that between 2019 and May 2024, about 291,000 migrant minors were released without court appearance notifications. The fact that there was no mechanism to track those cases raised concerns among various sectors, including lawmakers and human rights advocates.

During the 2024 electoral campaign, the issue of unaccompanied minors gained greater public relevance. Trump and Homan repeatedly cited estimates that spoke of more than 300,000 minors whose whereabouts were unknown, noting that many could be at risk.
Political pressure intensified after it emerged that Democratic President Biden had expressed frustration to his own cabinet over the inability to manage the increase in arrivals of migrant children.
Border authorities also reported a notable increase in encounters at the southwest border during the past year, with more than 301,000 cases recorded in December, followed by a significant drop to 11,710 in October, according to data from Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
The rescue of the minors and the operations for their identification and protection remain a central point in the migration debate. Child protection organizations have insisted on the need to strengthen tracking and verification systems to prevent children from falling again into risky situations, while investigations continue into the circumstances in which many of them were initially placed.
