Who must do the VTV in 2026, how much it costs in CABA, and in which cases it can be done for free

Vehicle Technical Inspection (VTV) is mandatory for thousands of cars and motorcycles registered in Buenos Aires City. Driving without this up-to-date inspection can result in fines that exceed $319,000.
With the rules in force since 2023, the system changed and reduced the frequency of the procedure for many drivers. This is why it's advisable to check whether it applies to have it done in 2026 and to schedule the expiration date in advance.
Los costos varían según la ubicación y tipo de vehículo
When you must do the VTV for the first time
Cars must undergo the first VTV when they reach 4 years of age or 60,000 kilometers (37,282.27 miles), whichever comes first.
The age is calculated according to the month and year of registration. Once that period has elapsed, the vehicle must be presented in the month that corresponds to the last digit of the license plate.
How often the VTV must be renewed in CABA?
The renewal frequency depends on the vehicle's age and mileage.
Every 24 months: cars up to 7 years old and with less than 80,000 km (49,709.70 miles).
Every 12 months: cars more than 7 years old or with more than 80,000 km (49,709.70 miles).
