President Noboa proposed Cynthia Gellibert as his acting vice president.

The official would assume the presidential office during Noboa's electoral campaign

President Daniel Noboa proposed the Secretary General of Public Administration, Cynthia Gellibert, as his best option to assume the Acting Vice Presidency for the remainder of his current term. The statement was made on March 28, in the context of the electoral campaign that will lead him to temporarily step down from the position.

Gellibert had already been appointed acting vice president in January, following the temporary absence of Verónica Abad, who faces a two-year suspension of her political rights. Noboa highlighted Gellibert's work as part of his trusted team and emphasized her role in the continuity of the government project.

The president ruled out the possibility of delegating the Presidency to Abad, stating that "she is already dismissed" and calling her a "traitor" in reference to the legal process against her. The sanction was imposed by the Electoral Dispute Tribunal following a complaint of gender political violence filed by Chancellor Gabriela Sommerfeld.

Currently, Verónica Abad is performing diplomatic duties in Ankara, Türkiye, by order of the Executive. However, with the TCE's resolution in effect, she will be forced to return to the country and will be disqualified from holding public office. Gellibert, meanwhile, positions herself as a key figure in Noboa's team, with experience and political support.

The president also reaffirmed his support for the Minister of Government, José de la Gasca, stating that he must continue in his current role due to his "great work" in the cabinet. This way, Noboa strengthens his team with technical and loyal profiles at key moments for his campaign.

With the appointment of Cynthia Gellibert as acting vice president, President Noboa bets on institutional stability and a technical leadership aligned with his vision of government. This decision reinforces his political strategy in the face of the ongoing electoral process.
