The Government of Japan delivered a $3.3 million donation to Ecuador aimed at strengthening public safety. The funds will be channeled to acquire patrol vehicles that will operate under the management of the Ministry of the Interior.

This contribution was formalized on March 27 through the signing of the exchange of notes between both countries, thus consolidating a key bilateral cooperation. The initiative is part of President Daniel Noboa's diplomatic effort to establish strategic international alliances.

In line with this active foreign policy, in February Ecuador also signed a memorandum of understanding with the European Union on security issues. This agreement provides a legal framework to offer institutional support through technical and operational cooperation.

President Noboa requested Chancellor Gabriela Sommerfeld to prioritize alliances with countries that can contribute to the fight against organized crime. This vision seeks to articulate comprehensive solutions to the threats that compromise public peace.

During 2024, Ecuador managed to secure around $358 million in non-reimbursable international cooperation. These resources allowed the execution of about 900 strategic projects, many of them framed in sensitive areas such as security, justice, and social development.

The arrival of this new donation from Japan reaffirms the confidence of international actors in the Noboa administration. The Government's technical and pragmatic approach has facilitated the establishment of cooperation relationships based on concrete results.

Japan's support strengthens the security strategy led by President Noboa and confirms that an active and technical foreign policy can attract effective cooperation. This alliance adds to the Government's efforts to restore peace to the citizens.
