The boycott against Morena's judicial election is growing: citizens call not to vote

Organizations call for not voting and marching on June 1 against what they call 'a democratic farce'

México is weeks away from holding the controversial judicial election promoted by Morena. However, a growing wave of public figures, businesspeople, and civil organizations has called for non-participation in what they label as a democratic simulation.

Former President Vicente Fox, businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego, host Paty Chapoy, and numerous influencers have joined the boycott. They warn that the June 1 vote doesn't guarantee legality or transparency.

"On June 1, you won't be exercising your vote; you'll be legitimizing a farce. Judges don't campaign or owe favors. This isn't democracy; it's absolute control", warned Fox on social media.

Former councilors warn: "It has no democratic guarantees"

During a forum organized by El Universal, former INE president Lorenzo Córdova severely questioned the judicial process pushed by the ruling party. María Marván and Marco Antonio Baños joined his criticisms.

"Not participating in an election doesn't mean being a bad democrat. This election lacks citizen oversight, has single candidacies, and no competition. It's a democratic farce", they warned.

Baños revealed that the INE started the process with half the necessary budget, without adequate logistics, and without guaranteeing the safeguarding of leftover ballots, which opens the door to electoral fraud.

Taddei defends INE despite failures

In response, INE president Guadalupe Taddei dismissed the criticisms as "political stances" and stated that the former councilors "don't understand" the new exercise.

But distrust is growing. Ricardo Salinas Pliego, owner of Grupo Salinas, publicly urged not to go to vote. "If we participate, we legitimize something that is invalid from its origin. We must boycott this farce", he stated.

Also, Paty Chapoy, host of TV Azteca, posted on social media: "No to the judicial farce".

Call for a national march on June 1

Various organizations like México Unido, SomosMX, Une México, and Ahora are calling for a March for Freedom on the same day as the election. The meeting is at 11:00 a.m., to protest peacefully and not go to the polls.

Calls and messages of rejection circulate on social media, such as: "No to communism, no to the censorship law, independent justice, revocation now".

The organizations call for not being accomplices in Morena's attempt to capture the Judiciary. The coordinator of México Unido, Denise Meade, was blunt:

"Let's not be accomplices in this judicial farce. June 1 is not a democratic celebration; it's a political staging".
