PRI demanded the removal of Fernández Noroña as President of the Senate
The party accuses the Morena member of downplaying the tragedy of the fields in Teuchitlán and acting as a 'cheerleader' for the government
The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) requested the removal of Gerardo Fernández Noroña as president of the Senate.
This, after his controversial comments about the recent findings in Teuchitlán, Jalisco, where alleged extermination camps used by organized crime were discovered.
The PRI accuses Fernández Noroña of downplaying the seriousness of these events and behaving inappropriately in his position.

Controversial comments about Teuchitlán
Recently, recruitment camps used by organized crime were discovered in Teuchitlán, Jalisco. There, pairs of shoes and other belongings were found that would appear to belong to the victims, which has shocked Mexican society.
However, Fernández Noroña made comments during a live broadcast on his social media. He questioned the finding of the pairs of shoes and stated that there was no certainty that these belonged to possible victims.

Accusations of bias and lack of neutrality
In addition to the comments about Teuchitlán, the PRI has criticized Fernández Noroña for his behavior in the Senate.
Alejandro Moreno, national leader of the PRI, called him a "cheerleader" for the ruling party and accused him of lacking the ability to build agreements and consensus.
In recent days, the national president of the tricolor even suggested that Fernández Noroña should receive psychiatric attention, given his ill-advised actions as president of the Senate.

Reactions and possible consequences
The PRI's request has caused various reactions in the political sphere. While some sectors support the removal of Fernández Noroña, others consider it a political strategy to weaken the ruling bloc.
So far, Fernández Noroña has downplayed the situation by stating that the opposition wouldn't be able to gather the two-thirds of the Senate of the Republic needed for his removal.
