Last-minute draft: Kevin Mac Allister joins Argentina's national team for the friendly match against Angola

The Argentina National Team added a last-minute surprise to its roster for the final international tour of 2025. After the withdrawal of Enzo Fernández and the return of Lisandro Martínez were confirmed, the coaching staff led by Lionel Scaloni urgently drafted Kevin Mac Allister, Alexis's brother and a standout for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium.

The 26-year-old defender received the notification on Saturday and will join the training sessions starting in the coming days in Alicante, Spain, where the Albiceleste squad will train until Thursday before traveling to Luanda, the venue for the friendly against Angola on November 14. This will be the last match of the year before the draw for the 2026 World Cup.

Although his name was not among the initial candidates, Mac Allister is currently enjoying an excellent spell in European soccer, where he has been a key player for the Belgian club with which he has already won three domestic titles. His tactical versatility is one of his main attributes, as he can play as a center-back or right-back, providing clean distribution from the back, strength in aerial duels, and a remarkable ability to adapt to different defensive systems.

The family story adds a special element, since Kevin will once again share a locker room with his brother Alexis Mac Allister, with whom he made his debut at Argentinos Juniors and briefly played alongside at Boca. Those early days in La Paternal now turn into a new reunion, no less than under the Albiceleste crest.

Regarding his performance, in the current season he has 17 official matches, with one goal and one assist in the Champions League, establishing himself as one of the most consistent Argentinians in Belgian soccer.
