Pressure increased on Franco Colapinto after his arrival at Alpine, especially due to the precedent set by Jack Doohan, who lost his place as the second driver. Some media outlets even took it for granted that the same would happen to the Argentine if the team signed Checo Pérez. However, the situation now appears to be clearer.
According to the specialized outlet PlanetF1, Alpine has no intention of signing Sergio Checo Pérez to take Colapinto's place for the remainder of the 2025 season. Although the Mexican's name remains on the list, he would only be an option for 2026, when the new Formula 1 technical regulations come into effect.

Meanwhile, during the last Spanish Grand Prix, Flavio Briatore, advisor to the team, made the team's focus clear: "If Colapinto performs, he'll drive the car. If not, we'll see." He added: "2025 is a year in which we have to prepare for 2026, so any experiment we need to do, we'll do it."
The message is clear: Colapinto's place is not at immediate risk, but it will depend on his performance. If he fails to convince the team, the candidates to replace him would be Jack Doohan, whom the Argentine recently displaced, Estonian Paul Aron, or Indian Kush Maini.
