Luciano Vietto won't renew his contract and will leave Racing at the end of the year

Luciano Vietto is going through his last days as a Racing footballer. The board decided not to renew the contract that expires shortly and the forward will leave the club once 2025 is over, thus closing his second spell in Avellaneda, marked by high expectations, recurrent physical problems, and a balance that fell short of what was expected.

The striker, who had returned in August of last year, generating great excitement among the fans, never managed to establish himself as a decisive piece. In the final stretch of 2024 he had limited involvement, with only ten matches played and a few minutes in the Copa Sudamericana that Academia eventually ended up winning. Already in 2025, after an encouraging start and good performances in the Recopa Sudamericana, injuries began to affect him and relegated him to sporadic appearances.

During this year, physical problems followed one after another. In March he suffered a strain in his left adductor, in May an overload in his right calf, and in June lower back pain. When he seemed to be recovered for the start of the Torneo Clausura, in August he again felt discomfort in his right hamstring and, near the end of the season, in November, he suffered a tear in his right soleus that ended up sealing a year marked by inconsistency.

Although the possibility of offering him a renewal under a productivity-based contract was evaluated, the board ultimately chose not to extend the relationship, understanding that his continuity was not a priority in the new sporting project.

Regarding his future, those close to the footballer acknowledge that there are inquiries from South American football, although there are still no formal offers. At 32 years of age, Vietto is also carefully analyzing the next steps in his career, without ruling out any alternative, including possible retirement.

Vietto's numbers at Racing

In his two spells at Academia, Vietto played 112 official matches, in which he scored 26 goals, provided 8 assists, and won two titles: Copa Sudamericana 2024 and Recopa Sudamericana 2025. During the 2025 season he took part in 29 matches, accumulated 1,298 minutes on the field, and recorded 5 goals and 3 assists, figures that reflect an intermittent contribution, affected by constant physical problems.
