President Javier Milei will not visit Mendoza next week as planned. The cancellation was confirmed by the La Libertad Avanza–Cambia Mendoza alliance, which attributed the decision to a schedule reshuffle related to an official trip to the United States.
From the front's official account, officials reported that the visit scheduled for February 18 was suspended because the head of state will have to travel to Washington to participate in the Peace Council. The international activity is part of the global insertion strategy that the national government is promoting.
Peace Council and international agenda
The Peace Council is an initiative promoted by U.S. President Donald Trump, aimed at promoting agreements for the resolution of conflicts in war zones. Milei signed the founding charter of the body during the World Economic Forum, in line with his policy of rapprochement with Washington and of strengthening ties with the West.
The visit to the United States will also include participation in institutional activities and meetings linked to the economic and geopolitical agenda. In that context, Karina Milei's trip to Mendoza was also suspended. The national president of La Libertad Avanza will accompany the head of state on the international tour.
Milei invitó a Cornejo a viajar a Estados Unidos tras cancelar su visita a Mendoza
The head of state had planned to arrive in the province with a twofold objective: to support his candidates in the municipal elections and to carry out a tour framed in the so-called "gratitude tour", as a gesture of recognition to those who supported the libertarian movement in the most recent elections.
Invitation to Cornejo for Argentina Week
Beyond the cancellation, the international agenda opened a new chapter in the relationship between Milei and the governor of Mendoza, Alfredo Cornejo. From Government House, officials confirmed that the president invited him to participate in Argentina Week, an event that will be held in New York between March 9 and 11.
The meeting will bring together more than 200 global business leaders, including CEOs of multinational companies and representatives of investment funds interested in the country's strategic sectors. According to Milei, the objective will be to communicate "with clarity and conviction the new Argentina: open, prosperous, and free", reinforcing the message of structural reforms and macroeconomic stability.
Their joint participation in that economic forum consolidates the political alignment between the two leaders. Cornejo was one of the national government's main backers in the debate over the recently approved labor reform and keeps fluid dialogue with key officials in the executive branch.
At present, the Mendoza governor is traveling in Europe. If his presence in the United States is confirmed, it will not interfere with the provincial agenda, since the international event will take place after the National Grape Harvest Festival.
This way, although the presidential visit to Mendoza has been postponed, the political relationship between Milei and Cornejo is being projected onto the international stage, in a context aimed at consolidating strategic support and promoting investment for the country.
