Río Cuarto: the area is preparing to receive the F-16s acquired by Milei's government
The runway at Las Higueras Airport is being remodeled to accommodate the fighter jets acquired by the Argentine government
Starting this Monday and until September, commercial flights between Río Cuarto and the City of Buenos Aires are suspended. The measure is due to key works at Las Higueras Airport, aimed at modernizing and strengthening its infrastructure. The renovation includes the runway, lighting system, and general improvements, with a view to receiving F-16 fighter jets from Denmark.
Mayor Gianfranco Lucessi confirmed that the work is part of a strategic project of the National Government. This is an investment of more than 12.7 billion pesos (28 billion pesos), included in the National Budget for this year. The F-16s, symbols of modern air power, will be housed at the Río Cuarto Material Area, which will be upgraded.

Córdoba as a strategic hub for national defense and development
The arrival of the F-16s represents a qualitative leap in Argentina's air capability after years of defense lag. The choice of Córdoba as the base is no coincidence: its location, logistics, and skilled personnel make it a vital enclave. National authorities highlighted the economic impact that the permanent military presence in the region will bring.
Aerolíneas Argentinas clarified that commercial flights will resume after the completion of the works. Local expectations are that the project will allow not only the reception of military jets but also improve infrastructure for passengers. The current works could benefit both commercial development and institutional strengthening in the long term.

The F-16s as a milestone for national defense
The F-16s acquired from Denmark will arrive before the end of the year, and their deployment will be celebrated with an official ceremony at the base. President Javier Milei is expected to attend the event, underscoring his vision of a strong and sovereign Argentina. The operation strengthens the country's strategic alignment with Western powers as part of a new military doctrine.
