With nearly 6 million tons (13.2 million pounds) projected, Córdoba's agricultural sector demonstrates its efficiency despite the lack of official support

The 2024/2025 agricultural season is progressing with exceptional results in Córdoba, where wheat and chickpeas are leading productive growth. According to the local Grain Exchange, the cereal could reach 5.9 million tons, while chickpeas could exceed 54,000. Both crops stand out for their yield and quality, consolidating the agribusiness sector as an economic engine.
Technical reports indicate that yields could be 50% higher than the historical average, a milestone that reflects innovation and private investment in technology. In the Unión department, the largest wheat contribution is expected, with more than one million tons, followed by Marcos Juárez. Meanwhile, in chickpeas, Río Primero accounts for nearly 40% of the provincial total.
Even with variable weather conditions, producers have managed to sustain the crops thanks to efficient management and timely sanitary controls. Most areas remain in good condition, with pests and diseases under technical control.
El Servicio Meteorológico Nacional prevé lluvias normales y temperaturas levemente superiores al promedio hasta diciembre.
Productive efficiency in an adverse context
The Grain Exchange's surveys were conducted between October 6 and 12, when more than 80% of the wheat was still in a critical period. Despite slight excess moisture in southeastern areas, the plots show a historic number of spikes per square meter. Production could be among the highest of the last decade.
Meanwhile, chickpeas are showing steady progress toward grain maturity, with plots maintaining excellent sanitary conditions. The main disease recorded is ascochyta blight, although with low incidence thanks to early control applied by producers.
Los informes técnicos indican que los rindes serían 50% superiores al promedio histórico, una marca que refleja la innovación y la inversión privada en tecnología.
Weather, a moderate ally for the season
The National Meteorological Service forecasts normal rainfall and slightly above-average temperatures through December. In September, some areas such as San Justo and Río Seco recorded lower precipitation, while in Marcos Juárez and Unión excesses were reported. Even so, producers managed to balance soil moisture to maintain grain quality.
The resilience of Córdoba's agricultural sector once again stands out as a pillar of the regional economy. With private investment, planning, and sustained work, the sector manages to overcome the structural limitations that public management has not solved. The contribution of the productive interior is once again consolidated as key to national development.
La producción podría ubicarse entre las más altas de la última década.
