Defense Minister Luis Petri confirmed, together with President Javier Milei, that preparations are progressing for the arrival of the F-16 aircraft acquired from Denmark
With the arrival of the F-16, President Javier Milei's government marks Argentina's return to the club of nations with supersonic capability, interrupted since the retirement of the last Mirage jets in 2015. This step not only modernizes the fleet but also redefines the national defense doctrine and consolidates the strategic alliance with the United States and NATO, strengthening the country's position in the Western Hemisphere.
Defense Minister Luis Petri announced that he is working together with President Javier Milei at the Olivos Residence to finalize preparations for the imminent arrival of F-16 fighter jets in the country. "We're going to make Argentina great again. VLLC!" wrote the official on his verified X account (formerly Twitter), referencing the president's campaign slogan and the spirit of national recovery promoted by the government.
The incorporation of these aircraft represents a historic leap for the Argentine Air Force, which will regain its supersonic flight capability after nearly a decade of operational limitations.
The F-16 Fighting Falcon are multirole fighters manufactured in the United States, considered among the most versatile and battle-tested in the world. Their aerodynamic design, combined with a powerful General Electric F110 or Pratt & Whitney F100 engine, allows them to exceed Mach 2 speeds (over 2,400 km/h [1,491 mph]) and perform high-precision maneuvers in interception, attack, and reconnaissance missions.
Argentina acquired a total of 24 F-16AM/BM units from the Royal Danish Air Force, in a deal approved by the United States. The aircraft are currently undergoing preparation and adaptation before being transferred to the country, where they will be incorporated into the VI Air Brigade in Tandil, a strategic base for the defense of national airspace.
Luis Petri emphasized that the incorporation of the fighters is part of the comprehensive plan for the transformation and modernization of the Armed Forces, aimed at recovering lost capabilities and boosting the national defense industry. "The F-16 symbolizes Argentina's return to international standards in air defense," the minister highlighted days ago.
The agreement with Denmark was made possible thanks to the support of the United States Department of State, which approved the transfer of the fighters in a context of bilateral cooperation in defense. With this step, Milei's government consolidates a strategic alignment with the West and projects a deep renewal of the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces.
The arrival of the F-16 not only represents military progress but also a symbol of technological and geopolitical sovereignty. After years of stagnation, Argentina soars high again, reaffirming its commitment to defense, freedom, and modernity.
