Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost 1 mission landed on the Moon and opens the door to tourism and private exploration
The Moon is no longer a distant destination: NASAhas confirmed that a private spacecraft has successfully landed on the lunar surface. The Blue Ghost 1 mission, by Firefly Aerospace, touched down at Mons Latreille, within the Mare Crisium.
This milestone strengthens public-private collaboration within the Artemis program, which is key to projecting a lasting human presence on the satellite. It also marks a step toward the future of lunar tourism and commercial space exploration.

Experiments and scientific objectives
The module carries 10 NASA instruments that will operate for a full lunar day, equivalent to 14 Earth days. Among its objectives are analyzing the regolith, testing survival technologies, and collecting data for future crewed missions.
The experiments will also serve to test equipment that could be used on Mars and other celestial bodies. For Nicky Fox, NASA's associate administrator for science, this achievement "paves the way for future missions and generates global inspiration."
Public-private collaboration and lunar economy
Janet Petro, NASA's acting administrator, emphasized that this success reflects how cooperation between companies and agencies positions the U.S. "at the forefront of space exploration."
Colaboración público-privada y economía lunar
Other private companies such as Intuitive Machines and Astrobotic are also part of the CLPS (Commercial Lunar Payload Services) program. It aims to accelerate the creation of a lunar economy through private transportation, technology, and services.
Artemis II and the next crewed mission
Thanks to these advances, NASA has moved Artemis II up to February 2026, two months ahead of schedule. This will be the program's first crewed mission to orbit the Moon with four astronauts on board.

The Blue Ghost 1 mission symbolizes a paradigm shift. Space exploration no longer depends solely on state agencies, but on an ecosystem where companies, governments, and science work together toward a common goal.
