The President of the US Congress supports the recognition of Judea and Samaria

Mike Johnson stated that the territory must be under Israeli control and that it should no longer be called the 'West Bank'

The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the city of Shiloh, in what was considered a historic meeting.

This was the first time a U.S. official of such high rank has held an official meeting with the Israeli head of government in the territories internationally known as the West Bank.

During the meeting, Johnson stated that he would work to ensure that at the U.S. federal level, the term "West Bank" is no longer used, instead promoting the exclusive use of the biblical designation "Judea and Samaria".

"Every corner of this land is important to us. It's an inseparable part of our faith," Johnson declared before Israeli representatives and local community leaders.

The visit took place as part of a broader tour led by Johnson along with members of Congress and officials linked to former President Donald Trump's administration.

The delegation also visited Ariel, considered the capital of Samaria, where they met with representatives of the Yesha Council, which brings together Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria.

According to the Council, the visit is part of a campaign to promote the recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the region.

Omer Rahamim, director of the Yesha Council, stated that Johnson's presence demonstrates that "the United States sees this region as part of Israel" and that now "the responsibility to apply sovereignty lies with the Israeli government".

The event was also attended by former Arkansas governor and current ambassador Mike Huckabee, and his daughter, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who was the first state official in the United States to promote a resolution to officially recognize Judea and Samaria as part of the State of Israel.

The mayor of Ariel, Yair Chetboun, thanked the choice of his city as the venue for the meeting and described the summit as a "diplomatic event of national importance".

The Yesha Council states that more than half a million Israeli citizens currently live under military administration in Judea and Samaria, and considers that formal recognition of sovereignty is a necessary step to normalize the situation and guarantee the rights of those residents.
