Franco Colapinto arrives at the Grand Prix of Azerbaijan with the goal of extending the good moment he experienced at the Grand Prix of Spain, where he achieved a seventh place that allowed him to score points for the second consecutive time and close the European stage of the current season of Formula 1 with a standout performance.
In the lead-up to the competition, through a statement from Alpine, the Argentine highlighted that he is "very eager to return to Baku" and noted that he expects to encounter "another very competitive race weekend". Additionally, he valued the result obtained in Madrid: "We made the most of the result in Madrid and I was very happy to leave Europe with another good qualifying that gave us points".
Regarding the characteristics of the urban circuit in the Azerbaijani capital, the driver explained: "It is another high-speed track with urban sections and very close walls, and our goal will be to transfer the level of performance we showed in Spain to this weekend".
At the same time, the driver from Pilar warned that a particularly demanding series of GPs begins. "We are entering a very busy period of races in the coming weeks, so it is essential that we make the most of all the opportunities that come our way, and Baku has always offered a lot of exciting action", Colapinto stated.
With that goal, the Argentine will seek to get back into the points zone and continue advancing in the Constructors' Championship: "We will work hard to ensure we are in the best possible position to take advantage of these moments and aim for another result in the top ten, while we continue to chase our rivals in the championship".
When Colapinto Returns to Race
After his brilliant performance on Spanish soil, the Argentine will now travel to Baku for the Grand Prix of Azerbaijan. Due to the fact that Sunday, September 27, is Memorial Day in that country, in memory of those who fell during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the action will be moved up 24 hours, the competition will start on Thursday, September 24, with the first free practices and will conclude on Saturday, September 26, with the main race.
In his previous appearances at the urban circuit of the capital of the Asian country, the native of Pilar had very different results. In 2024, when he was still part of Williams, he finished eighth, scoring his first points as a Formula 1 driver, while in 2025, already with Alpine, he finished in 19th place out of 20, largely marked by the poor performance of his car that year.
